Pontiac V6 with nitrous ???

Hello,

Not only the owner of the almighty GTA 89 5.7 :-)
but also the owner of a little child V6 2.8 84
which is running perfect. This one is much faster
in curves, because of his KYB GR2 shocks and Dropzone lowering springs. etc etc...

I ve a question to you all..
my v6 is a carburated version.

will this nitrous fit on my car ???
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3A1%3A2v_home

just wondering...

It has been done, do a "search" on this board- however, the two people that come to mind are pontiac1 (I think that was his screen name, he hasn't been here in a long time) and Drew.

Both of them used it on later model 3.1 liter fuel injected engines.

The thing I see with that kit is the 9 oz bottle would not last long at all. But if your engine is healty, why not, I don't seee a 35 or 50 horse shot hurting it.

Most people that are afraid of nitrous have never used it, and of all the people that I know that have used it the only time it caused a problem was when they got greedy and went from say a 100 horse shot to a 150, or used it on a long streightaway on the road rather than a quick dragstrip blast.

My wifes 99 Grand Prix GT is getting an NX wet kit sooner or later. Best of all, it's a four door with a baby seat.

Well they claim it will fit a Fiero, which also came with the carb V6 motor. I would email them for more details on this. You are going to need a plate with a spray bar to go between the carburettor and the intake. If they can not provide them, pass on it.

Kits by NOS and Nitrous Express are more money, but if you look at them, they come with better parts, an arming switch to trun on the power, and a micro switch that goes on the carb linkage to only activate the system at wide open throttle. Now I know Drew had his set up with a push button, but he was well aware not to push the thing at low RPM or when the engine was not running- it results in a bad backfire that can damage stuff. The acutal nitrous bottle is much larger, 10lb, and the line from the bottle to the engine is steel braided, that little kit you are looking at appears to be flimsy rubber hose.

Now I realise over in Holland kits are not availible like they are here ( though in Amsterdam you can get LOTS of other things that you can not get in the US legally ) but if you keep looking on Ebay a used kit may come up from one of the other manufacturers that will work better.

Good luck!

Well, very interesting...
yeah the parts are here hard to find..
i will contact the seller.. but
they always telling you, ; i m just a seller
nothing more.. yeah ..
and you need indeed a plate for the spray.
well, i will inform a local dealer and let check
him the car first.. then i shall show him the
product which i want, and maybe he can install
it for me too...

so its very dangerous if you activate it by low rpm ?

and the other question is :
i ve a performance chip, can i leave it or ?
is this also dangerous for my automatic ?
its just revised, and i ve a extra cooler installed too...

thanks for your help !

It would take me a long time to explain it properly, but nitrous contains much more oxygen than the air you breathe, which allows you to burn more fuel, which is basically how it works to make power-

Nitrous will be sprayed in the same quantity depending on your jet no matter what speed or load the engine is running at, and that shot is sized for the engine at wide open throttle- if you hit it at idle, you get more nitrous than you have fuel, so you go really lean, and usually get a big buildup in the intake, which can cause a backfire through the intake, that can damage your carburettor.

Hopefully someone with a better explanation can clear this up.

No, that small of a shot should not damage your automatic. Keep in mind, you will only be using it for short bursts.
