that aint a clutch problem, i shut mine off in gear all the time, and i have never had that problem, wait that might be a loose dust cover. i had that problem about 3 weeks ago. also look by the passenger side in the engine compt. there is a heat shield that came loose on mine, and it was rattling around til i got a set of vise grips and pulled it out.

87Blue, I understand it can be a pain, but I believe the laws vary from state to state on what a "classic" really should look like. Since you are in FL, there may be a big difference than PA. On the mileage restriction, if it's 10,000 per year, the Average driver puts on about 12,000 per year on a normally driven vehicle, which doesn't seem like a whole lot of difference. I'm going to go through the process regardless, since I don't drive the firebird daily, and especially not after all the $$ I've been sinking in to it the past 2 years. I'd like my money to last for a while!

I'll let you guys know if it's any more of a pain in PA than FL.

i am from perry county, that is north of cumberland county.
you know on the other side of the river from harrisburg up 22 322 or 11 15(which ever you prefer). i am stationed in jacksonville florida, but as i said i was born and raised in pennsylvania. my mustang and camaro are both registered in pennsylvania. my driver's lisense is issued by penndot. i am not trying to be a a$$hole or anything, but i do know the rules and laws of pennsylvania, and that is where i tried to get it registered as a classic car at. to be exact my home of residence is in newport pennsylvania just of state route 34 between newport and new bloomfield. my father lives 5 minutes walking distance from the army war college on high street aka trindle rd just up the road from the square in carlisle(you know the place where the all ford nationals are held every year, wait better yet the corvette show(corvettes at carlisle)i have a cabin in tioga county overlooking cowanesque(think that is spelled right)lake(1/2 miles from state line). i don't think that there is any question on where i come from do you? do what you want, i was just merely telling you that i had a hard time trying to get them and what the rules were in '97, but by all means, good luck and i hope that you get them.

hahaha... and here I was thinking you were a florida resident! I didn't know you applied in PA for the plates.... I'll have to look in to it a little more, if it's going to be that much of a hassle, I probably won't bother.

Thanks for the info!

no problem it happens sometimes, eithor you forgot, or you just didn't read up enough, if your car is stock with minor mods you shouldn't have a problem unless you drive the he!! out of it. remember mine has a blower that sticks way out of the hood, and is jacked in the rear, that is where i had problems. they didn't say anything about the aftermarket gages they didn't say much about the nitrous lines(hidden along with the bottles) just the suspension and the blower and cut up hood. good luck

ked you never cease to amaize me, i figured that he would not want to do that, cause it is slightly illegal in pennsylvania. besides if he just disconnects the old speedo, he won't be able to tell how fast he is going! it is pretty easy though to do and installing a new one is pretty easy, just go get a new set of guages out of one in a junk yard, and install, it is like 10 screws to get the old guages out. disconnecting the speedo cable is the hardest part, it took me a hour to get mine out of the back of the guage pannel!(i had to have a new one installed!) old one was bobing up and down worse than a hooker's head!

I can't believe how easy it is to disconnect a speedo.
I did it once while "moving & renting a vehicle" I travelled 3 back east states (Md to PA) & only put on miles to "down street & back!" Only problem was keeping fluid in the tranny, as I disconnected it down there! Found a plastic bottle cap that fit the tranny fitting & I was off again!
Buying old speedos is so easy a score these days!
AND ya can always figure out speed by the tach! and pacing other cars!
IT IS SO EASY!
Even on my 1985 Firebird I've swapped speedos & speedo cable (old style set up).
It wasn't extremely difficult but I did it.
Yeah if one has an old car I'd figure you'd have spare set of gauges anyway! Especally old Mustangs, they're easy to score.
I have several spare sets of guages for my old Camaros & Corvette. I stocked up at swap meets!

It's illegal....OH PLEASE! Just figure another way outta the box!

i guess that you could disconnect it down there too, buddy got 20,000 fine for tampering with odometer, but then again, he owns a car lot. it saves me on the resale value on the camaro too, but the mustang, i keep that one on there all the time.
i thought that i could use the tach to keep track of speed too, but then i got a 200$ fine for going 65 in a 45! i forgot what gear i was in, by the way ked, 3 days til i get that money in the mail for you!

NO concern on the funds. "Send an email".
A DEALERSHIP CERTAINLY SHOULD BE FINED for Speedo tampering!
BUT
a private citizen,
who manipulates his own speedo so his license/registration plates are less expensive.. who would care?
I mean I see that suggestion I offered as a way outta a box for less costs for insurance, in the end.
Yeah one can easily disconnet the speedo at the tranny.

AND IF YA GOT A TICKET FOR BEING IN WRONG GEAR & DEPENDING ON TACH FOR SPEED LIMIT, I sure hope the passenger that was with ya was a beautiful destraction for that goof!!!! CAUSE IF NOT ya deserved the ticket!!!!!Too funny!
I could only wish I was the cop to hear the excuse ya offered!!!!!

actually i knew the cop and i told him that my speedo was out and i thought that i was in 4th. i had driven for 10 hours that day and he understood that, so he gave me a break. i was 15 minutes from my mother's house( my end of the 1200 mile trip) all he told me was to get it fixed and call him when it was fixed, and gave me a warning. it still cost me 100$ but it was better than 250$ and points on my record.

.... and the speedo on mine is fairly easy, it's electronic, so I just unplug it at the tranny and away I go. I tried it once for a day and it worked, but I had a hard time gauging my speed.

That and the clock reads 202,903, so I think keeping mileage down at this point is a little irrelevant for me!
