Insurance on a Six
How much is insurance on a six cylinder camaro?
My parents are dropping me off their insurance. So my insurance for my iroc is going from $10 a day to $25 a day.
Would the insurance company nail me if I put 202 smallblock 305 in it. Insurance wise anyway.
Will the t-5 for the 6 cylinder, hold a 305 thats roughly the same as a L69.
And how much should I expect to pay for it?

Bellhousings are different for v8 to v6, you would either have to change the bell housings or change the whole tranny.
Why would you not just get a v6 car instead of ruining a v8 one?
Also, why the hell ar eyou paying your insurance per day, go by month, MUCH easier for people to comphrehend. for example i pay $135 CDN a month of my insurance on my 6

i don't know where your from and how the insurance there works, but where i live if you drop a bigger motor into your car you don't have to tell the insurance company. i mean you could buy a 4cyl car and drop a 502bb into it and still pay the same insurance as you were with a 4cyl.and do the insurance by the month or 6 months you'll save cash that way

Sure you dont HAVE to tell your insurance company, I don't either, btw if you open your eyes you can see where I am from.
You don't have to tell them anything, but if someone hits u and you try and claim your money back and get some money for that engine you dropped in but you didn't tell them, they may not even pay you a cent because you just voided your insurance by dropping that in without reporting it.

Are you sh*ting me?
I pay about $480 per year with AAA $500 deductable for FULL Coverage. All I can say is bend over and lube yourself- gawd almightly, might as well walk.
If you're just carrying liability, MOST insurance companies don't care if it's a V6 or V8.
What made me mad is one company wanted to charge me EXTRA on my Corvette because it's fiberglass.
I paid $120/month on my V6 Firebird and on my V6 Camaro when I switched.
I paid $96/month for my Z28 Convertible.
I pay $63/month for my Vette.

Funny thing about insurance is, they're based on driving studies that were conducted in the late 60's early 70's when less women drove, hence men had more accidents.
In ALL of the newer studies, women are more dangerous drivers.....yet men still pay more.

You really need to shop around for insurance, rates can vary wildly for under 25 years old.

yeah its full insurance, on a 1989 Chevy Camaro Iroc 305TPI with a five speed and 3.45's. I have theft, glass, 100K liability and what my car blue books at.... so like 5K on the books.
Im in PA, plus being in the county with the most accidents in PA doesn't help.
I would be destroying a v6 or 4 cylinder camaro. So I wouldn't feel bad ripping the motor out of it. But if I stick with the 4 banger concept I would drop a turbo camaro body kit and well a turbo.
I totaled it by the day because thats how i count how much I really have come up with, i pay by the quater, my parents will not let me get anything but full coverage. Though if I get the other one the theft and stuff i am not paying for. Just liability.
Here is a link to my iroc:

Your a moron if you've allowed yourself to screw up so much your insurance is that high. Mine would be like $600 a year if that if I had it because I only have 1 ticket. I've raced lot's of cars, done plenty of burnouts and speed everywhere but don't do it like a moron. If your insurance is gonna be $10g a year on that car then you need to sell it, buy a moped and a rain coat and save the rest of the money for something else.
And I'm not talking a decent moped, I'm talking a 50 cc lil kids moped.

it is. what can i say, im 17 with a camaro iroc, i live in a county in Pa that has the highest accident rate in PA. Most every kid races, I dont, but I show off, im faster than most of the cars around here minus the WRX's which I am right on line with. I have coverage for everything theft, $10 deductible for glass, liability, collison and everything else I can think of. plus the factor that ,most people drive like they are in Britian doesn't help

Well aint that the ****s for you, my quote up here, I'm 16 by the way, for a Z28 *didnt have iroc listed, just about the same thing to them*, was still the same as my v6, which is $135 a month, on my own, no previous driving record, only driving courses, not good grades in school, in a very high risk city now adays.

My old room mate said that its because men go fast and when they get in wrecks, theres death n destruction
and when women do, its "oops, I backed into you" or just randomly constantly getting into fender benders. Member

I am gonna check the bill, because one of the guys suggested my parents might be fing me but I remeber the insurance brokers laughing when i said the car and my age

Collision/etc is pointless because the insurance company will say "Well, your car is 16 years old. Here's $500 because we're totalling it." And you're screwed.
Since you don't race there's no need for collision anyway- and any part you damage you can get from a junkyard or from aftermarket. And glass? Heck you can pick up glass from a junkyard.
If you're that worried about theft/glass/collision, start a savings account, put $5000 in it, and use that if your car's stolen or your glass breaks or you collide with something. It makes a hell of a lot more sense financially.
I've never had collision on my car; and it's been insured and driven for 11 years. I was never under my parents insurance, either.
And next time a company laughs at you, get their manager on the phone and tell them that you expect to be taken seriously, and that their company does not deserve your business. At the least, you'll get an apology and a professionally-delivered quote.

yea full coverage is pretty uch a waste on a thirdgen since they will just total it and you will be sitting with no car anyhow. At least that is if you do not have collector plates on it. then there is special insurance you can get that will cover full replacement of the car. but then, there are a few restrictions on driving it then. like how many miles and what times of year and such.

you guys must remember that he is from a commonwealth, and things are different in a commonwealth. try just the basic insurance. it is what i had to do when i first got my lisence back almost 7 years ago.
it will still cost you almost 100 a month, it is your car you pay for it, not your parents. if they got a problem with it, tell them to foot the bill, otherwise get what is the cheapest. remember that if you get in a accident, you got to pay to fix it though, that is the only downh side to just bare state minimal.

I wasn't aware that when your car get's totaled the insurance company takes it. When I lived in Mass my winter beater a 95 cavalier was hit and one of the side beams where the front door and rear door meets was hit, car was totaled, I got a check for $2500 for the car, and they let me keep the car.
PA does seem to be a unique state for insurance.
And to boot, that also seems to cap the comapnies that WANT to do business in PA.
I know Erie area.
About the only place I can see ya racing on is the water or river!
Phone your local state representative
Ask for a number to state insurance office.
Ask them about your problem.
YOU MAY get some decent reply and or a business that will treat you better and with a lower rate.
OTHER OPTION IS TO
get your current car registered in parents name & then you are a part time driver.
The "tests" or way rates are charged doesn't seem to do much with sexual identity of person (man or woman drivers).
It's competitivness of the companies allowed to get the business in the area. And yes rate of accidents in the area. Erie also has lots of BIG TRUCKS going thru the area.
Another example of wonderful ways to do business in PA only people in PA would understand.
Liquor, Wine & Beer stores and purchasing of said beverages. And tell me there are still the "Blue Laws" going on, too.
Business common practice sense doesn't always apply in some states.
For example,
IF PA state safety laws were enforced upon he vehicles of CA I swear we'd never have a traffic problem as probably 50% of current vehicles would fail the PA safety test! PA residents will understand this statement!

pennsylvania is the worst when trying to get a car inspected and that kind of stuff. it makes california look like a walk in the park with their emissions tests. my hometown is in carlisle, and the only other towns that see more vehicle traffic are philly and pittsburgh, my insurance was nowhere near that expensive for me, really the only ones that know what we are talking about is the guys from PA so please don't think that you know about pennsylvania dmv stuff unless you lived there, cause you really don't. i know that KED lived there but most of you other guys never did, so please. as i said before and as ked said, talk to the dmv, and for the rest of you liability in pennsylvania covers anti- lawsuit coverage. the car is yours, and as everyone else said, the rest of that full coverage you realy don't need except for your medical coverage, just incase you wreck and go to the hospital.

im actually down in monroe cty. man other side of pa, more towards jersey, the thing about accidents came from a state trooper. i am under my parents names and i pay that much.
i like having the theft and glass because two weeks ago my car was broken into, a few days later someone tried to steal it. I reconizgned the second guy because i know a guy who owns a reversal of mechanics station, if you understand. And in the 5 years in PA my parents had two rear windshields shot out.
Hey since when does PA, have emissions? I was told by the dealer a month ago their wasn't any, i will fail royally, my car has blown out cats, a blownout muffler and it sounds like a large displacement motor even though its a 305.

I understand in PA that that "no Smog Test" rule "in those areas" may be changing.
Monroe....
Great 24 hour party there once. Morning was being shown Three Rivers Stadium. Breakfast was at Eagle Store (Ah Choo! OH FOOD! AS BAG OPENS!).
Don't ya just love those a-hole neighbors that have no regard for others property? Hope ya had a chance to right the wrong.

Don't ya just love those a-hole neighbors that have no regard for others property? Hope ya had a chance to right the wrong.

Here's what my insurance company told me after I installed the L98 in my V6 Car:
Keep the receipt, the car may be worth more should anything happen to it.
I asked about the premium, she said it's based completely off of the VIN, regardless of the engine in the car.
I wanted to be sure I was doing nothing illegal with the insurance, so I made the point to ask, and that's all that they told me.
BTW, I have nationwide insurance.
The whole "emissions" is just another moneymaker for the state. It just came to mercer county this year, which is 2(?) counties south of erie.
The only check that is done is a pressure test on the gas tank, and a visual inspection of your smog components to make sure they haven't been tampered with.
However, there is a way around it: My firebird is eligible for classic plates this year. The requirement is the car be 15 years old or older, and be "representative" of what the car looked as a new vehicle.
You have to fill out an application, send in 4 pictures with it, and a $99 registration fee.
Once the car is registered as a classic, the registration is good for as long as you own it, you never need to renew. On top of that, the only inspection required is the annual safety inspection. The car becomes emissions exempt, and your insurance premiums do drop a little (I'll let you know when I get mine on the road).
As far as restricted hours go, what my insurance company told me is this: Don't drive it EVERY day. That's it. It can be driven at night, etc. just not every day. Whatever....
Hope that helps.
EDIT: I forgot to metion, I pay $2400 annually for 4 vehicles, my firebird included. Firebird has full coverage.

okay not to shoot you down on the classic thing, but they say that it is really easy to get the classic tags and all, but i promise you that it isn't, i tried a couple of years ago to get them for my mustang. we sent all interior and exterior pics. they told us that we needed one of the engine. so we took one of the engine. they told us that the back tires and suspension had to be returned back to stock, and that the engine had to be brought back to factory looking specs(tunnel ram and blower had to go, as the engine wasn't plummed for nitrous then) we politely told them to F*** off. also we did some research on it before we applied, you can only drive the car a certain amount of miles per year. that is something that someone doesn't want you to know. i think that it is 10,000 for classic plates and 2,000 for antique plates. we can't think about the antique plates for about another 15 years and they are a real pain in the **** to get.

do you think that sometime in the future you will be actually driving that thing, cause 700 miles, that is like owning it just for the look, doesn't make any sense, drive that thing, man, it was ment to be driven

that is one of the reasons that i don't have classic tags on the "beast", i don't however drive her in the rain or the snow, but that is not cause of the weather, that is cause of the lack of traction! when you got close to 800 hp at the rear wheels, traction becomes a problem in the rain and the snow.
but as for the third gens, drive the wheels off them, they were designed to do just that, He!! i do with mine!

I dont know, she is going away in about 3 months anyway, and it will taken back out in about 5 years. Yeah she sits alot, i gotta get a better car cover to speak of.
As far as this car I did some real sick racing when i got it out and scared the **** out my self i even got taken by a stock four banger,, with the e brake on lol. I have done a whole lot to this car in 700 miles(the airborne stuff is scary) and im hoping i just didn't break my clutch.
Answer this, I stopped the car and forgot it was in first gear. I went to get out of the car and I removed my foot from the clutch. The clutch made a cling noise, then I restarted it in neutral and it was making a clicking sound. When I put it into gear, it stopped did I just rip off a fin?
