I guess in all-out cornering a ligher v6 would be better... but any race that's not pure turns, I'd think that an 11-second v8 could more than make up for a few seconds lost in some turns...

isn't the weight difference only a few hundred pounds?

To further add to this, the CMC (Camaro-Mustang Challange) racecars ran at California speedway and they are extensively stripped down and reweighted for bias. The guys are cutting out the sheetmetal on the underneath sides of the hoods, etc in order to get the nose weight down and then if once they get under weight they add a few stratigic lbs here and there to balance the car and bring it to the minimum of 3150 and they are allowed a 250HP limit on the 350V8's. NOTE: "They are also on road race tires."
The times range from the fastest Mustang being 1:57:xx lap times to the slowest Camaro running a 2:11:xx laptimes.

I ran a 2:09.xx without my headers, TB , my new brake setup and my new cooling system keeping my trans temp down and I was on street tires. I personally think I could click off a 2:05 right now with the brakes and other changes

How 'bout them apples?

I didn't realize they would take away the only advantage a v8 would have... high horsepower... that's a bunch of crap.

I guess in this case a v6 would be much better...
