Fuel Problem???

Fuel Problem???

I was driving on the free way goin about 60 or 70 and floored it to pass sumone. when the car reached high rpms it died. i pulled off to the side of the road and tried to start it and it would start and idle very low and rough for about 10 seconds and then shut off. so i let it sit for about 20 or 30 mins and then it started up and i drove home about 15 mins away keeping the car at very low rpms. the next morning i wake up and the car is cold starts up just fine and i drive to a friends house about 10 mins away. go and hang out for about 20 mins come back out and it does the same thing with a low rough idle. let it cool off for about an hour come back out and it was hard to start still but i got it finally running and drove it home.

the next day i replaced the fuel filter this didnt fix the problem. my step dad would not let me do any further work. i was thinkin it was a fuel pump problem or fuel pressure regulator. so we take it down to the mechanic. they test the fuel pressure and its fine and they find that a fuel injector was shorting out. so they fix that but the car is still doing the same thing. do you guys have any ideas? the stupid mechanic has had the car for about a week and im probably gettin charged hundreds of dollars for labor because they cant seem to find the problem. any ideas? ur help is appreciated, thanks.

COULD BE
Overheating
Coil (weak & the HEAT makes it weaker!)
Try coil next
Don't worry, gremlins do happen!
It happens to best of us & it can take mucho effort to track down!

thanks ill try the coil. do u guys think it could maybe be the fuel pressure regulator?

When I pulled apart my regulator while doing my swap, I discovered my original diaphram was torn.
So it can happen.
How'd I fix mine?
I used the internals from the 3.4 FPR I was swapping into my ride, and placed it all under the 2.8 cap.
Works perfect still to this day.

distributor cap. may or may not be your problem however. mine was just worn and finally went out. nothign really caused it but time.

Axle/Gears: No idea
If the problem is presented again, pull off 1 or 2 spark plugs and check for spark. If don't have spark, problem came from the ignition system, no from fuel system. Then, continue with the analysis and study....

I replaced the cap and rotor as preventative maintenance. It turned out to be a bad fuel injector.
