I recently did the tb bypass and when my dad was pulling the old hoses off he broke the piece that screws into the intake manifold which end up costing me $224. And the mechanics there got rid of my tb bypass and send it will mess up my engine. What should i do, do the tb bypass again for the 1hp or listen to the mechanics at the garage and keep it how it is stock?? I live in southern maryland it is never really cold so i dont see how they can say it will hurt the engine. Also does anybody have pics of the tb bypass they did so i can see that i did it right. (im 99% positive i did it right and they just want the extra money so they told me that it was hurting the car)

At least you won't have that connector, that you just had replaced, break while you're on the road somewhere.

What he said.

Heh, you'll see a bigger gain in HP when comparing a cold fall day to a sweltering hot summer day.

Wow. $224? I broke mine, and replaced it for $10 from some galvanized piping... I think it was 5/8" or 3/4" pipe thread?

was pulling the old hoses off
When I pull on a hose, it doesnt come off, I take a razor blade and cut the hose. It comes off much easier then.

you probably wont see a gain in a little V6. In a larger engine you do, but not in yours. No it wouldn't hurt your car, unless you live in antartica, in which case it MIGHT be a good idea. Other than that, GM running hot coolant through the throttle body is dumb.

sure it is. in CA. you would sing a different tune when its -30C out, -41C with the windchill you car is buried under 4 feet of snow, you go to start your car and you can hear the frozen coolent slushing around in the engine. and you wait for the car to warm up.

Yup, that works great if you are replaceing the hose anyway.

If you need to reuse the hose. Push on it like you are putting it on and twist until it breaks loose. Then wiggle it back and forth while pulling. If you pull straight on the hose you just make it stretch and grip the tube tighter. Know what a Chinese finger trap is?

The TB coolant bypass isn't worth any significant power, but it sure makes removing the plenum go faster, and cleans things up a bit.

project 85 2.8 bird, I live in waldorf charles county, md. This thread is over now lol i went to pick up my car today and i talked to the mechanic and he told me he left the tb bypass on and told me the other guy didnt kno what he was talking about that said it would hurt something and was gonna replace it to stock. I didnt notice any gain with the tb bypass. I ended up spending $444.53 on getting 4 new tires mounted and balanced, tighten loose knuckles in the steering column and replacing that piece that broke.

14th street cruising.

I lived in Port Tobacco & Welcome, past La Plata on rt6 west.

Andrewes Auto Parts. They usually have what you need. If not, Brandywine Auto Parts up in.........Brandywine. Use their locator service. I did when I was up in Minot ND.
