Crate 3.4 V6?
Hey, just wondering if anyone has bought or thought of buying this:
http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfpart...on=ep#12363230
I think it would be a cool choice after your original V6 dies...but why only caburated? Could u put an old 3.4 V6 fuel injection system to work on this? Or would you be forced to be carburated? (Which isnt really a bad thing)
Another sad thing is that its not made for any manual transmissions, which would have been a cool option too...****. Also its all cast iron and has a 9:1 com. ratio. and requires 89 octane...weak.

ked85 wrote up a tech article on doing a 3.4 swap out of a 93-95 camaro/firebird. look for that and read through that. the engine will swap right in using our current intake and everything else. once you read it, do a search, there are countless threads on this swap, if you have any other questions, let us know. lots of us have done it, easy stuff.

Ok, I'll look for that.
I know people usually look around for a used 3.4 from a Firebird/Camaro, but I was just wondering if this crate 3.4 for a old, 80s Chevy truck would be a pretty easy swap too for only about $1800.

it would work, but youre gonna spend a lot more than you would w/ a used 3.4. i got mine for about $800 shipped and regasketed the whole thing for under a grand. new waterpump, timing chain, etc etc etc. much better route to go.

One thing that you all need to be aware of is that using this engine with EFI will void the warranty. No questions.
Stupid as hell but true, nonetheless.
The 3.4 F-body motor is a popular swap into Fieros. Some folks who have the coin have opted for the crate motor.
I have heard of several people who have been denied warranty coverage simply because it was used with EFI. (Strangely enough, they weren't too worried about the holes drilled on the "left" side of the engine to make it work in a transverse installation.)
I'll see if I can find the thread that one of these swappers posted regarding his warranty claim.

if you get a crate 3.4 -- get pistons from a Grand Am GT and put them into it, and ditch the crappy iron heads and put aluminum heads/intake from a 99+ GAGT on it. (you'll need headers to make the whole setup work but then who doesnt want those?)
you do that and i guarantee you will have at least 200 hp (bhp...170rwhp. i have a dyno to prove it)

The only problem with that is that some of us have distributors. The Gen III heads and intake are for DIS motors.
If you know of a Gen III intake that will still leave room for a distributor, please share.
(This is kind of a "trick" challenge. This has been researched extensively, elsewhere. Not one has been found that I know of.)

ditch the Dist and get DIS. and a 3.4L ECM. youd be better off anyway cause the 3.4 is closer to the 3400 setup than the 2.8/3.1 ecm.
edit: btw....the 3.4, when the cam sensor has no signal, defaults to MPFI. so theoretically you can run a regular (or any cam) you want in the 3.4L and the computer, if it lacks a cam tab, will just run in MPFI instead of SFI mode.
if you get any ECM from a 1993-1995 3.4L fbody you will have SD still as well (Speed Density for those that dont know)

interesting concept . . . someone get doward in here, see what he has to say about this. seems like a bit of work for the DIS and ecm, but also seems worth it for the heads/intake, (would that pass smog though . . . ). meh, im not enough of an entreprenuer, ill wait til someone like am91 or doward does it.

Dale's done teh 3.4 w/DIS swap in his old show truck, & I had DIS going for a little bit w/the 3800. You just need to make sure you get 100% of teh engien & dash harness along w/any pcm/bcm that goes along with.
And the beauty is that IF you decide to mearly upgrade your current engine , it can be made that way, too.
See my pics.
How that combination gets to pass smog is only a guess by me
YET it is a great combination!
