How many quarts of oil in 3.1
How many quarts of oil in 3.1
How many quarts of oil in a 3.1 V6 do you put in when changing oil. I usually put a little less than 4 quarts in. Just wondering what the EXACT recommanded amount is...

I believe its around 4 quarts.. although that is pulling it out of my head... i might take a look at my repair manual after i get back today
big filter??? part number please?
Why are you using a bigger filter?
you sure about that many quarts in a 3.1 V6? I was thinking more like 3.75 or something like that... the engine shows its full at less than 4 quarts.

edit: gm service manual for an 89 says 4 quarts.

I never paid attention to how much I put in, I always get the 5 quart jug, and check the dipstick after dumping half in, then just keep topping it off til full. There is always some left in the jug...
oh. i've been using ph3980, i think? The one that was on there before before i bought it was 1/2 the size of that.
So theres a small, medium, and large oil filter. just like mcdonald's fries...

The PH3980 and PF52 are the same size, just different brands.
The stock filter is a PH3387A or PF47, much smaller.

For me, I've always tossed in four quarts.
"Some" leaks out anyway thru gaskets.
Always used the AC Delco PF51 until "they" changed over to the PF52, AC Delco brand.
Never knew there was a "smaller size" filter.

I'm redoing my covers & gaskets with Fiero covers shortly.
Adding a bit of oil every now & then is way more simple than changing those gaskets right now.
I already tackled the timing chain, rear main seal, rear cam seal, oil filter housing gasket & distributor gasket.
If ya wanna come on by & do the job for me, tho, no complaints from me!
