a/c compressor gone bad?

ac wasnt cooling that great cuz the clutch or watever on the compressor was not catching all the way it would slip. well now since we got it back from the shop for getting a new distributor the ac switch was disconnected so i put it back on and the clutch doesnt catch AT ALL when the ac is turned on. air blows inside but just hot and i dont knwo wat is up. think the compressor has just gone bad? any ideas?

Obviously it would appear that if the compressor is not spinning them you are not pumping freon through the system to get cool air- compressor needs to engage.

I have a funny querk that I will share with everyone on this topic

A few months back when I had the dash apart putting gauges in the passenger side, I took the bottom passenger panel off and notice that the cable leading from the HVAC controls to the heater box was broken off at the plastic lever. It must have been like this for years because when I reached down and flipped the broken lever over to the right by hand the AC got much stonger and colder than it ever has in the past.

I have a new upgraded complete R-134 system put into this car about 3 years ago and it has always been cool enough, but now it gets downright cold inside the car and I have to turn it down.

so any part i could replace to get it to engage? or do i just need to replace the compressor. its the new system we jsut got it replaced a year and a half ago so its barely out of warranty.

Don't quote me but I believe there is a fail safe mode on the compressors if the freon runs low from a leak. This could be your problem as to why the clutch will not engage. I would suggest taking it to a pro to find out whats wrong.

at first fill it up with freon, you need to do this anyway once a while, or you can pressurerise the system with a special gas to check for leaks and the gas will press out moisture out of the system. Should be done in a shop.

I feel for ya
Take it to a shop since ya reconnected the compressor & it's not cooperating.
HOPEFULLY it is simple
