Eliminate Cold Start injector???

I know TPI guys do it all the time (some aftermarket intakes don't even have a provision for it), but has anyone here? I know it would probably require some programming changes, at least in cold climates, but I doubt thats much of an issue. Redraif's cold start injector tube o-ring is leaking, and GM has discontinued the part...none of the local parts stores have it, either. I'd really like to just plug or TIG up the hole in the rail , plug the hole in the intake, and be done with it.

You can use a freeze plug to put in the hole. Thats what they do on the 3.1 intakes. 3.1=2.8 intake plus freeze plug.

Then use a 3.1 rail.

I think you could leave as programed, would just have to crank a tad longer to start. But I dont know ecm info.

I would be good if someone knows how to get the o-ring at least...

Dale, really? Gm does that from the factory?? Cool! Thanks for the info!

That O-ring is some kind of oddball specially-made-for-GM-only size... I couldn't find it anywhere, even at "real" parts stores with boxes of o-rings. I thought I posted the specs somewhere... but after a search of the forums, I guess I didn't.

yes, really

That is the only difference I could find off the main base design.

Freezeplug where the CSI goes
extra pipe plug where some sensor up front goes.

Sweet! I have never messed with any 3.1s (only Firebird and Fiero 2.8s, and 4th gen 3.4s) so I had no idea. Cool!

I was pretty surprised to see that GM discoed the o-ring though...the dealer was the only place I could ever find them!

joe, if you find any differences on the intake itself, please let me know.

But when I had project85's engine here with the 2.8 intake, and my 3.1 pulled, that was the only obvious differences I could find.

I doubt that there are, even the 3.4 intake looks interchangeable otherwise.

Dale, is the 3.1 fuel rail identical otherwise? I just looked at the 3.4 one we have and the lines come in at the top, and are retained by a plate rather than screwing in.

3.1 looks like a 2.8 w/o the threaded hole.

I may have a spare laying around here if you really need a pic.

Way off topic, but about cranking abit longer because of the no cold start injector. Is that good for the engine, cause it gives more time for oil to get shot around? Or does it stress?

The cranking helps. My fuel pump doesn't prime till I get 7psi of oil

Which is sort of normal as its the factory back up if the reg fuel pump relay fails. But I have the main relay unhooked so only the back up circut will trip the fuel pump. But I like it that way.
