water pump mystery leak??

Ok had hole in lower radiator hose,.so i replaced it.,.,the while parked at a pump i saw leakin again so i got it home lifted her up and saw it apeared to be coming from under the hermonic,.wich is impossible bacause there's only oil in that part.,So knowing this should be a bad water pump,. i serch for the leak., its hard to tell it has to be leaking from the bottom part that i just cant see RIGHT?

im guessing that it's coming from the weep hole. and its just hard to see Am i right? im just asking case im looking over somthing else.,it leaks pretty steadaly,.yet get this i filld the resivior,. and drove 80 miles there and 80 back with two steap grades.,and she did very well never gettin hotter then usual.,.,seems as long as im rollin straight there is alot more air cooling in these camaros

any expiriences with what im talkin about?

Oh and do i need to remove the hermonic., to replace it?
once off is there any thing i should check for befor replacing the new pump?

hopfully it will be an easy job!!

as far as the water pump it prolly is the problem. with how little it seems to be leaking though it's not surprising your staying cool though. at one point the waterpump on my mazda was bad enough I could get out of the car lift on the waterpump and could just hear it expell/inhale air.
60 miles I would need to put more water in cause she was almost empty. don't know how I didn't fry the poor rotary during that time.

as far as what you need to remove to fix it sorry I can't help you there.
but you prolly should have a little time with it but I would recomend you just get it taken care of unlike what I Ddid and let it sit for a long time to be fixed

im just hoping i can take it off with out removing the hermonic.,i dont feel like fighting with it,.

but just to be clear there is no other reason it would apear to be coming from below the hermonic RIGHT?? ANYONE!! ide hate to replace it just to find out it was some lil tube of suntin i over looked!...............

Ok i did a serch on here,.B.T.W {tom p} when i did the serch ,i saw that you ,.have been repeating your self alot.,.,lol telling us about the thread lockers and gasket sealer you use.,as well as, The carfull removal of the old gaskett.,,.im sure there are other devoted pll on this forum you have helped as much as you.,but i just wanted to say thanks for being dedicated to sharing your knoledge,.over and over.,.,.,

Now on that note: im confused., from all the posts i read from every one.,.,my 91 r/s 3.1 needs a water pump., but there are a few things that bother me about this job

1... i do not quiet understand how it could be possible to get water in the oil,. threw a bolt.,.,,.that worries me..

2...ive looked and it does not appear that ill need to take the starin pump off.,or any bracket.,looks just like pully,, belt,,hose,,then vola. There it is redy to unbolt nothing in the way,

3...most ppl seem to have made a big deal about the timing cover coming off.,.,whats the big deal other then nedding a new gaskett for it???

it also likes to leak right behind the water pump... like the gasket went bad. It flows down by the weep hole making it look like the WP is bad, or just flows down the block making it look like a mystery.

Water pump leak

I had the same problem. The neck to the outlet from the water pump the the radiator is part of the timing cover. Mine had rotted off because of the previous owners poor maintenance practices. If this is the problem then your going to have to pull the water pump, harmonic balancer, and get a new timing cover. The timing cover for the 2.8 and 3.1 are the same. You can usually get one used from a salvage yard. May as well change the timing chain, and water pump while you have them off and remove the radiator and give it a good flush.
