2.8 litre rough acceleration

Hello all, My question is about my 2.8 litre v6 MFI. The problem is under initial acceleration (part throttle) the car lurches and sputters and threatens to stall until you get to 1/2 throttle. My first guess would be the fuel injectors are dirty or the timing is off.

I tried replacing the spark plugs and wires but that made it much worse.

If anyone can shed some ight on this situation that would be great

Thank you

Sounds like you ahve a problem with your wiring. Your plug wires could be off or the timing is wrong. Set your mark to top dead zero on 1st plug then pull off your distributor cap to see where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing to your plug wire for the first plug. If not you have to make your adjustments.

See if that helps.

First thing I would do is verify ignition timing.

Then, if timing is OK, check out fuel pressure. You want to 34 to 47 PSI of pressure at the rail and it's should be fairly steady. GO out and buy a guage at AutoZone or something and it'll screw on to the schrader valve at the back of the fuel rail. Very tiny pulses are normal.

Then shut off the car and you want to see the fuel pressure hold above about 25-30 PSI for at least 10 minutes.

If fuel pressure checks out, verify TPS operation. There are A LOT of posts that detail the procedure, so feel free to search for them.
