94 v6 engine swap?
94 v6 engine swap?
I was wondering what my options are for swapping out my 3.4 in my camaro? Can I put in a different v6 engine? I assume that a 96 and up 3.6 wont work? What about a 3.8, or even a 4.0? Where can I get an engine, and will I be able to keep the same tranny (AOD) that is on there now with a different engine.
Otherwise, where would you recommend to get a new 3.4? I am not very happy with this one, as the answer I seem to get is usually that happens with those engines. (No oil pressure and barely 100,000 miles). Thanks for some input!

have you replaced the oil pump and/or inspected the bearings? A lot cheaper than doing another swap.
A 3800 will bolt up to your tranny, but not sure how it shifts right (the person who did the 3800 swap before I did kept their 7004R tranny) http://www.cardomain.com/ride/400337
I'd investigate teh pressure problem first, maybe even hook up a mechanical gauge & verify pressure.

Never heard of a 3.6L
You could rebuild your 3.4, but if you replaced your pump and there is still no oil pressure there has to be something else wrong.
Have you checked the gears on the cam/oil pump drive pump? I've never heard of them wearing at < 100000 Miles, but I guess anything is possible.
Oh and that comment about "It happens with those engines" is news to me, I have NEVER heard of that happening with any of the 660 family.
If you have a tick, it could be a sticky/colapsed lifter, most of the time a tick is a lifter/bumpstick problem, knock is rod/piston/crank problem.

well the comment was made by sofakingdom in a previous thread of mine, "Those 60 degree 6-cyl motors are notorious for that." The thread is here, https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...readid=321950.

Thanks for the link, but honestly this is the first time I have heard or read about "These engine being notorious for that".
Yes, ANY engine with excessive wear will have little to no warm oil pressure, not just the 60*
I think your best bet would be to pull it and check it over, if you find that it does have excessive bearing clearance, replace them and/or rebuild/freshen the engine.
