3.1 litre engine knock

hey guys I just recently pulled a 3.1 litre otu of my 91. I never drove it to commute only down a side street as I bought it for a v8 transplant. anyways I know when I would start the car ran fine except there was a knock. heard a few times with the V6's that perhaps this is a hydraulic lifter in which has collapsed? can anyone back this? or is it an actcual rod knock? just want to know as I plan on rebuilding this as I"m selling it and some dude has a 90 and has a 3.1 litre doing the same thing

cheers

blake

Mine does the same thing its the lifters but you can also hear it on the bottom end on my car as well im at 240,000 Miles so mine is expected but it runs with no problems and fixing it would open a can of worms.

mines at 230,000 km I believe the owner said it would shut off after getting overly hot? any other familiar symtoms?

I work at a speed shop so a rebuild wouldt bother me so much. just bearings and rings really, probalby best to replace cam and lifters

hey ! I have expirenenced this same issues descussed in this topic.,.,have you conciderd that perhaps a fuel injecter is the cause? sometimes individual ones can tap [louder] then other's

Also heres and idea: jack up the car in the air,.take like a 2 or 3 in" pipe and use it, like a stetiscope to listen to the bottom end of the motor., as with the heads and the intake part of the manafold.,.,the same can be done with the injecters under the plenum......i found my bottom knocking was from a loose torq converter bolt from the auto trans.,.,hell i was worried my barrings or crank was wacked., but the converter bolts were an easy fix.,.,the stethascope idea realy is quiiet effective in i detifiying where issues are presicly occuring
