exhaust ?/2000+ aluminum heads on RWD 3.4

Does anyone know a good source for headers for these heads used in a RWD aplication? I've heard that the iron heads have a different bolt pattern that doesn't match up.

uh, a 60* V6 is a 60* V6. they all have the same bolt pattern.

Source? carb legal, pacesetter.

incorrect, the bolt patten is different. I belive the FWD one is futher apart?

I think they will need to be custom made.

That's what I was afraid of. Are there any manifolds that will work?
Thanx

Manifolds, I "belive" the FWD ones will bolt up to the RWD y-pipe, but dont quote me on that one.

Or are you talking about intake manifold?

v6sucker, yes, all RWD heads have same bolt pattern.
I'm not sure all FWD ones do??

No you understood right. I was wondering if the FWD exhaust manifolds would work for RWD applications. I'm sure some custom stuff will still be required.

Of course it will bolt up....but the driver side FWD exhuast manifold is designed to go route the tubes different. I dont think you could make it work... I had a set of Gen II heads I wanted to try to fit on my RWD V6. The exhaust bolts are the same, but the intake ports are different. You would have to use the FWD intake manifold with the FWD aluminum heads. THEN, you have to use the FWD pistons because the FWD Gen II heads have a smaller chamber and require valve clearance in the pistons. I already went through all this when I rebuilt my 2.8....

There is no OEM offered manifold that will work with FWD heads in a longitudily mounted RWD application. '87 to present 660 manifolds route the front (AKA left) bank over the tranny bellhousing, and into the other manifold, unfortunatly, without firewall modifications this isn't going to work in a RWD application.

I built mine from scratch, but I also had a spooly thing hanging off the right bank header (Yes all 6 cylinders were routed through the turbo), so mine pretty much NEEDED to be custom.

The genIII heads have the following differences from the genI counterpart:

Bolt spacing is farther apart, this is a vertical measurment or across the exhaust port. (GenII shares the same bolt spacing as the genIII heads.)

The shape is a D-shape, which differs from the round port of the genI (and II)

However the port spacing is the same, so a set of headers could be modified to work, to match the bolt spacing and port shape.
A set of RWD manifolds could be modified as well, but there is usually not enough material in them to grind away.

Now, this hasn't be verified or even brough up yet, AFAIK, but possibly some 3500 manifolds (From the Malibu Maxx), could be used for a RWD application, just removing the cats from the manifold, may provide a flange to attach the down pipes to.
