Belt tensioner/belt
Hey guys. I got a question about my belt tensioner. Is the tensioner supposed to automatically self adjust? I know it is but here's how mine works.
In order to remove my serpentine belt, I have to release the tension on the tensioner of course. So it has to be pushed counter clockwise. Now here's the weird part. My tensioner STAYS in the released postiion. I though the tensioners are supposed to be spring loaded and be automatically forced back down as soon as you release the force on it? When you replace the belt you have to force the tensioner back down to press it against the belt.
Also, I just replaced my belt (....I believe it was from 1989.....thank you previous owner!!! lol) and it makes a lot of vibrating noises and you can see it vibrating like a guitar string between the A/C compressor and the tensioner.
So do you guys think I got a bad tensioner? Or maybe the wrong belt? Thanks!
