advancing timing
Is this a good mod, how many of you have done this? whats the maximum i should advance it for the best performance gains. I dont mind running 93 octane btw and how do you advance it on the 3.1?

i think that i ran around 15* on mine when it was stock. just advance it a little then go drive the car under different load conditions and if it doesn't spark knock, advance it another 2*s or so and try it again. Once you start getting some spark knock, back the timing back down a couple of degrees. I wouldn't recommend much past the 15*, mentioned, though. You can advance it too much and the knock sensor will "hide" the spark knock. so, yes, I say its worth it. To do it, you loosen the distributor clamp bolt at the base of the dist. and turn the dist. clockwise if i'm thinkin straight. you don't have to turn it very much to make a big difference, though.

yes, stock is 10*. and, yes, definately use a timing light. it won't take very much of a turn...just do it with the engine running and check it as you do it. don't forget to unplug that connector that you have to unplug when you set the timing.
