anyone whos installed new springs, reply as fast as you can
im on a bit of a time crunch and trying to get my heads together and found that my new springs have the extra coil. theres an insert on the original springs that comresses, but enough to fit in the new ones. has anyone else had this problem? should i just disregard them or is there a way to install them?

OK, after looking a the pic and a look-see in the Helm manual: the piece in the right side of your pic I would discard. It is an oil splash shield. Note that by discarding it the spring installed height will be increased. Should also be using a good valve stem seal(s).
The new springs are single wound with a damper. The stock springs are single wound w/o a damper. Guess GM needed to fit the splash shield.
When I build up hi-po street heads I discard the upper splash shield. Use an O-ring seal on the retainer. And use a positive seal on the intake stem, and an umbrella seal on the exhaust stem. These seals are fit to the top of the guide.
