Codes 23 & 53
Codes 23 & 53
I have a 91 V6 Camaro that's getting an intermitten SEL light. I checked the codes it's throwing and I'm getting:
23 - MAT Temp Low?
52 - voltage too high?
Is that right?
Any idea what this is telling me?
A week ago, the car stalled and then idled very high (~ 2,000) when it started up again. I cleaned out the throttle body and the IAC valve area and that seemed to help (it was very sooty in there).
Could this be related, or some other sensor like EGR or something?
I probably just need to replace all those types of things as part of an overall tune-up/clean-up??

Now is that code 52 or 25???
If you have 2 codes that contradict each other, what you need to do is disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes to clear the computer's memory. Then drive it around until the light comes back on. Then pull the code.
It's not uncommon for IAT sensors to go open and set a code 23. You might have a weird situation where the sensor goes open at one heat range, then shorts out at another. Depending on how cheap it is to replace, you might just want to replace it just because.

IAT = Iantake Air Temperature Sensor
It's the same as the MAT, just different abbreviation.
It should be located somewhere in the filter housing. If you have the dual snorkle camaro intake, it's on the driver side of the Y and if you have a firebird, it should be located in the airbox
