pick up coil question.

I just bought a new pickup coil and I was wondering if I take that white tape stuff off the coil or not, my old one didnt have that and the copper was exposed. The guy at autozone said to leave it on. But itlooks like its just there to protect the copper.

Its actually to be on it. Age makes it go away.

Dale's right; that tape eventually turns yellow, then brown, then falls apart. Definately leave it on. Be careful removing the clip that holds the pickup coil to the distributor; it likes to fly across the room- wear eye protection!
