more help needed!!
I was driving my camaro the other day and i was going up a hill, all of a sudden the speedo needle started jumping like crazy and then dropped to zero. The car stopped shifting in to overdrive and then the check engine light turned on. I pulled the codes and got a vehicle speed sensor code. Would my speedo cable breaking (if that is the problem) cause the car to throw the code.

yes it would. IIRC, the speed sensor in cable driven cars is up in the dash. Which would make it throw a code.

Exactly true. The VSS is an optical sensor on the back of the speedo, driven by the cable.
I suggest that you get a cable AND housing for it when you replac it because the cable has worn the inside of the housing and might screw up the new cable.
