Generic ignition key?

Engine: 350 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 9 Bolt Borg Warner 3.27 gears
Generic ignition key?
Ok...I have long since bypassed my VAT system and was looking at the prospect of getting a "generic" key made since there is no need for the coded key that went with the VAT system. Can't I take a spare coded key and grind down the resistor chip off bothe sides of the key and just get a new generic key made from a blank?
