its part "deceleration valve" and part of you pcv vent, you can remove it and plug of the line on the plastic intake tube and at the line going into the TB, and you need to put a vent in place of it on the valve cover, do not plug it off, i had a problem blowing oil out of the dipstick tube after i did this, a valve cover vent would fix this.

so if i remove it i will no longer have proper PCV valve oporation? if that is the case i am leaving it alone.

it's actually designed to keep the engine from running super rich when you go into decel and are pulling a huge vacuum on the system. The instant that you close the throttle, there's still a few injector pulses that are going on and if that valve weren't there, you'd get black smoke out the tailpipe on most cars. It's there to help with that left over fuel. I wouldn't worry about removing it, it's not hurting anything. Also, that bracket helps to support the Alternator and keep it from moving around, keeping the belt tighter and putting less strain on the tensioner.

2point8boy, thakyou for the info on what it does and why. verry interesting.

BTW i am aware of what the alternator bracket is for
i ment the bracket that is screwed on to the alternator bracket that holds the "decel valve" (i named it) in place. it blocks my access to the rear bolt. it is a general pain in my ***. perhaps i will relocate it to the firewall.

any issues with lengthening the vaccume lines going to it you think?

Oh, I just looked at your picture again and it's a different setup than mine. On my car it mounts between the tensioner and the alternator and helps to keep the alt from rotating toward the driver's side of the car. Your's is behind the alt.

I don't see a problem with relocating it and lengthening the lines. Should be alright.
