Changing Springs & Struts -- Advice?
Hey guys, I want to change the springs and struts in my 89' Camaro. I don't know when they have been changed out, but my car is sitting pretty low to the ground... I will just assume the struts (front and rear) have never been changed, and I will assume the springs have never been changed.
Recommend me springs and struts for my 2.8L v6 1989 Camaro please
Varying in price range -- No, I do not plan on putting a v8 in this car. That is what my next project car will be for.
Thanks,
ScottieB

Well you may want to also replace the front strut mounts if you have not done so. I just replaced my entire suspension with bilstein shocks and struts, Spohn front a-arms, and GM upper strut mounts. For springs I just purchased the stock V6 Moog springs. I purchased my hardware and springs from Spohn. If you want exact parts and places I purchased them from let me know. When I had everything replaced I noticed the difference almost immediately.

I got my shocks from Shockwarehouse.com - Shocks and Struts from Bilstein, KYB, Rancho, Monroe, Edelbrock because they had the lowest price on Bilsteins. I cannot remember all the prices but I did get the upper struct mounts, and all associated hardware such as strut bolts and nuts from Spohn. Spohn also ordered me the V6 springs I needed. I found the Moog part numbers at https://mfr.activant.com/mfrserv/ext...pplier=FMOFull. Also Sophn was able to order me the spring insulators you will need for the front and rear.
As for the installation I had someone else do it. At the time I was having a ton of things done. I had the front lower a-arms replaced, front upper strut mounts, struts, and all of my steering linkage (tie rods, idler arm, drag link, etc). So much work was being done it just was easier to have someone else do it. Now many people might say it is easy to replace springs on your own but I do not know. The mechanic I had do it I am not sure he is the best but he had a hard time with the springs. He had asked me if they were the correct ones and I said yep they are. I couldn't give you an exact price for the things you want to replace but parts and labor could be around $1000 with Bilsteins. I had transmission mounts replaced and torque arm mounts replaced at the same time. If you have questions let me know because my entire suspension has been replaced. Most of my suspension is Hotchkis and just Spohn a-arms.

If you dont want to lower it, moog springs are the favored replacements.
Shocks, them Bilsteins are little expensive, but worth it. I have kyb-gr2's on mine and they are a bit stiff.
I would atleast, check the upper strut mounts, replace if needed.
As for having someone else do it for you... The only dangrous(sp?) part is the front springs. The rest is all just time n tools.
