Water Temp Gauge

Help me guys...I'm gonna put in a new water temp gauge from autometer the thing is I don't know which one to get. Is the sending unit electrical or mechanical, does it even matter??? Thanks for the info.

Transmission: 3 on the tree
Axle/Gears: so tall theres no point
just depends, i always used electric gauges, but i also had a fuel pressure gauge running inside and the electric gauges are the only safe ones to use inside..... so it just preference with the water temp
