My first v6 help plz

Hi all im new here so help me plz. This is my question I have a 16 year old son and my insurence company wont insure him on a iroc camaro which is what he really wants but i have been able to get him to consider a v6 model my question is which model do you recommed most that is is still fun to drive.

I dont no much about these cars except that there is a few model types but i was always told if you dont get a iroc then the rest (these are not my words so dont flame me) "are junk" is this true

P.S. This is probly a dumb question but can you get the v6 models with t tops

THANKS

PW

there is VERY little difference between the IROCs and the "rest" the IROC is simply a Z-28 with tweeks such as weight reduction in the form on no radio/backseats and such, stiffer shocks/spring, some bolton braces, bigger engines. the same can be said for the Z-28 over the SC cars only Z-28s had options added not removed.

Ok so ill look for a 88 or newer v6 with mannual that sounds like fun to me.

But my sons cousin told him that v6 camaros are for girls so is there anything i could say to a 16 year old to make him believe otherwise hes really down you no the whole im 16 so i need a big v8 engine to get the ladys excited with. Like do v6s do anything better then v8s. I no they handle better but thats about it. I told him it will be a lil better on gas but i dont know.

Oh and one more question why are the mannuals perferd to the autos just cause there more fun or sumthin else

THANKS

unless you want to buy another car when they wrap that one into a tree trying "hotrod" there V8, buy them the V6, and tell them to deal with it . you can still fix up the V6....G/L. <------just my two cents.

<-----did i just hit 100th post???? man that seemed to take forever..LMAO

just toss the ole' "when i was your age i had to WALK to school" line. and add "upphill BOTH ways" for added comedic effect. fact is when he is buying his own damn car he can get a v8. thats how it happened to me. but in my case i was buying the v6 too, but under my perents roof they said i could not buy an 8. "you don't need a v8 to drive to school" were my mothers exact words.

if he has never driven a fast car before it will seem lightning quick. you could also give the ultimatum. if he keeps this one running (as in does all the maintinence himself) and stays out of trouble (or gets good grades, no tickets.. whatever curcumstances you want) you will buy him an IROC when he graduates/turns 18 etc... this way he learns to respect a car before he gets some big 220HP L98 beast.

guy in my carclub bought his son an L98 (350 fuel injected)iroc, one week later he sideswipped a tree. now he his stuck in an Lg4 (305 carbed).

depending on the mechanical abilities of you and/or him..... mod the v6!!!! that way hell feel the power increase and who knows, may get that bug that most of us do when we start modding our v6. try a search on all the mods out there to do to these things.

Bought mine and was gonna swap to a v8 within a year. Got hooked, and I'd never give up my 6 now.

Guess what i told him the i had to walk to school line and he gave me the old yea dad whatever. Then i told him about the moding and he got genuinly excited i also told him that most the girls at your school wouldnt even no the diffrence between the v8 and v6. I told him all that they will see is a cherry muscle (like) car with t tops And then he got really excited he was gonna look through the paper today.

Do you guys have any recommendations on where to find one where did you get yours.

THANKS

Tell him that if you're helping him buy it, he'll live with it or ride the bus...lol

I'm 24, bought my 88 V6/Manual Trans car 5 years ago and believe me, it'll get him in enough trouble, being only 16 and not having very much experiance actually behind the wheel. Honestly, it's a perfectly fine car to drive around and a lot more fun than I had ever imagined a 6'er could be. Just let him browse this forum and read all the performance things people have done, that should at least get him interested even if none of it ever gets done or pans out.

get him a camaro RS with a 305, because you will regret getting him a v6. Then once he gets into the car all he will talk about is how hes gonna swap a v8 in there or sell the car and get one with a v8, but once you buy a six your pretty much stuck with it. So get him something with a 305 and you'll both be happy.

My 1st car was an 86 2.8 liter sport coupe with an auto tranny, that I got for 600 bucks when I was 16. It was very very ugly. But it ran good, got good gas mileage, and got me back and forth to school. It was kinda fun to drive too! But the main thing is that I wanted a good beginner car with RWD so I could learn how handle my future V8 cars. When the tranny died I junked it. But then every car I owned after that I gradually stepped up in power. Went from 2.8, to LG4, LB9,L98,to an LS1, but now Im back to an L98. But I really appreciate my 1st car for getting me hooked on f bodies, and teaching me how to drive responsibly without kicking the *** end out into a tree. That 1st full throttle stab around a corner with my 305 TPI was very scary! LOL...

tell ur son that neither v6 or v8 will "get girl's attention".

fast car equals girl's attention is mere a imaginary ideal for us car junkies
and it rarely applies in real world. just my 2cents.
