Here's what I found out about my dizzy....

I decided after work to look at a few things. First, I tried to see if the timing chain was off a little. I took an 18mm socket and turned the crank while looking at the rotor. I think it turned maybe 1/2 inch or maybe less when I saw the rotor move so the chain is probably still good. Second, I looked under the dizzy cap and noticed the gouging which occured in the last cap I took off also happened in this one as well (see pic in my last post). Third, the rotor moved slightly left-to-right play about an 1/8 of an inch. I also noticed the rotor would come upward as I pulled on it and I could feel the worm gears hit each other as I rotated the rotor. Bad dizzy? Any thoughts? I moved the dizzy body to see if it was loose or had play...none.

Yeah, that's a crap distributor. Time to visit the parts store for a new one.

There's a bushing in the top of it that keeps everything in line and after the years, that goes bad and gives you what you're describing.

Have fun.
