ordered some stuff from hawks, and need some help

okay first i ordered the MSD blaster coil, it looks like an easy swap but how do you get the stock coil out, the screws holding it in are nothing ive ever seen before.

next i ordered the white face guage kit with the shifter and ac/heater unit inlays, how hard are the white face guages to install? anything i need to know?

i also ordered the MAC strut tower brace, powercoated black, because it looks like it will fit over the 2.8 with no mods.
so any info would be appreciated, i kinda went on a spree, i ordered the front camaro badge from modern day muscle in accented with gold, i spent 150 on custom floor mats in black embroidered gold with camaro. hmmm i ordered a led conversion kit for the 3rd brake light because i go thru like 3 of these bulbs a summer, i also ordered those diamond crystal parking lights... DEPO Chevy Camaro 85-92 Diamond Clear Park Signal Bumper Light they look better and are cheaper than the stockers, i also got a classy looking gunmetal shift **** and it will look like a 5 spd from a few feet back, haha, and a new brake pedal pad b/c mines ripped and keeps getting caught on my friggin shoe, haha, can ya tell i got bored today? -rainy day-

Been a while, but normally external coil screws are a very small hex-head, and tricky to find. I have a whole set of tiny ignition wrenches, and I use those. Wish I could tell you what size they were, I'd have to look at em. Maybe 5.5mm's?

Mine had rivits holding it in. I used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer. Pounded off top and pulled brackets off. Mine came with long bolts that went through the holes where the rivits were.

Be careful with these...I installed a set(not from Hawks) in my car and my speedo is off 5 mph. gauge face isnt centered on inlay. Other than that its pretty to install. I did it in mabye an hour to an hour and a half, and Im learning as I go with my car.

this is ridiculos, why the HELL would gm use f'in rivets to hold a godforsaken coil in? not only can i not get it out, but to remove the whole bracket to drill out the rivets, ive got to disect half of the vaccum lines etc in the car, im about to just rip the POS out, how else can i destroy these rivets?!

I had a lot of problems getting it out too. I cant tell you exactly how I did it cause after the first 10 min I went at it with a bunch of different tools. I know I knocked off the ends of the rivits with a flat head screwdriver and a hammer, kinda like a chisil. I also used old wire cutters. And I think after that I just grabed the little brackets, that are rivited on, and just pulled them off.
Mine came with new bolts and brackets, so I didnt worry about bending them.

After you've removed the coil bracket, find a drill bit the same size as the rivet head. Slowly drill out the rivet head. Should take just a few minutes.

I just installed my Blaster Coil last weekend. I removed the bracket (very easy 'cause all the emissions crap is gone). After clamping the bracket to the work bench, I used a grinder to eliminate the rivet heads. A little gentle prying on the coil straps with a flat tip screw driver and the rivets fell right out. While I was at it, I cut off the part of the bracket that the emissions thingy was bolted too. It looks much cleaner now.

yeah i went at it with a hammer and screwdriver also, it worked, but i bumped into another issue, the coil didnt fit back in the stock location perfectly, 1 of the bolts lined up that i worked in and the rest were off, so i bolted that in really tight, and it didnt budge, so i thew some zip ties in the other holes for now, ill see what the issue is this winter when i gut all the emissions crap, anyone want to give me some steps as how to remove all the emissions and smog garbage? thanks.

Removing the smog stuff was pretty easy. I made block-off plates for the EGR out of steel plate (for both the exhaust manifold and intake). The rest of the stuff I just unbolted and tossed. I got rid of all those little vacuum lines from the throttle body and blocked off the holes with Quicksteel. I then ran a vacuum hose from the T fitting on the back of the plenum (the other side is attached to the power brake booster) to the fuel pressure regulator. I also gutted the cat, removed the AIR pump and am running a shorter belt with a slightly modified alternator bracket (made out of the AIR pump bracket )! I still have hanging wires to get rid of though.

Before I get flamed, let me go on record; I DID NOT notice any performance gains by removing the smog equipment and I DO NOT encourage anyone else to follow in my lawless behavior!

That said, my car still runs beautifully, and most importantly, my engine bay is much less cluttered!

days late, & dollars short, but...............

you could've just relocated the new col ina different spot in reach of the wires, and kept the old one in place as an emergancy backup. I think Karl & TomP did this.

As for removal of e-crap, you might run into more issues durring removal than hooking things back up.

Sorry for the delay, I had to wait for my buddy to post the pics. BTW, his camera is not the greatest so...

Pic 1. EGR stuff gone and block off plate on exhaust manifold
Pic 2. smog pump delete with shorter belt and "custom" alt bracket
Pic 3. neat and tidy engine bay
