redline question

Okay...I went out today and bought a Sunpro mini tach, so that I have something to show me if I am about to over-rev another engine again(doing a swap right now thanks to spun bearing). I have no idea where to set the little red-line needle, however. What did the MPFI 2.8s redline at?

my redline starts at 5500, but i have taken her to/over 7000 a few times in neutral with no problems at all. i can take her up to 6500 in first gear (auto in first) and pop it into 2nd via the shifter and the engine doesn't even care, nor the trans... but everything varies in our engines.

5500 is factory on mine. although it may actually be different on the carbed since they did have weaker bottom ends.

Axle/Gears: yep, got that as well
On my car the orange field starts at 5500 and then it turns red at 6500rpm.
Never tried to rew it that high tough, guess it won't move faster anyway..

MPFI redline is what I needed....putting an '88 MPFI bottom end + heads in the car, using my intake and carb. I just wanted to make sure that I don't give myself the opportunity to spin another bearing.....

thanks guys!

well you could set the redline at stock, but I remember people saying that the stock engine doesn't make anymore power past 4500 so reving past that by a lot wouldn't make any point except trying to wear it out faster. The bottom end of the engine is rated to 7000 but the stock valvetrain wouldn't be very stable at that speed (I wouldn't rev mine past 5500, maybe 6000). If you're not making any power and its not like it sounds good or anything, then why do it?
