can oilpan be removed without pulling engine?

I don't mind pulling engine mount bolts and raising it a little though.

My timing chain broke when a tensioner bolt came out while idling. I'm putting on a new one tomorrow and will check the compression to see if any valves or pushrods are bent (the way my luck has been lately, they probably are), and I want to remove the pan too and get the metal shavings out.

What's the best way to get the pan out with the engine in the car?

the overhead hoist I used for the v6 engine swapping would be perfect for this application nudge nudge

did this back on my 83 a few months before my wreck, I just used a bottle jack and a few 2x4's to lift the engine up and keep itlifted, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE OFF THE DIS CAP or you will crush it.

Take the motor mounts out (great tiem to replace them)
take off the y-pipe/air connnections, lift the bad boy up some, have some one looking to make sure you dont crush anything on the top end. After about 2 to 3 inches the body will raise up, put somethign on the shock towers ( i put 4 50lbs bags of concrete on the front, 2 on each shock tower) then you should beable to get to the bolts and take the pan off..

I did this earlier this year. I pulled the dizzy cap off, unbolted the y--pipe from the back section. Undid the motor mounts, loosened the trans mount. I then put a board between the oil pan and jack, jacked it up. Then weddged a 2x4 in the motor mounts on each side. Let it back down and wiggled/kicked the engine to make sure it was solid (oo, I was pissed to, lol). I could then access the pan and wiggle it down.
