I Finally got another Camaro. It needs work I need help

Hey guys, its been awhile. I have been Camaroless for almost 2 years. I just got a 1991 Camaro RS 3.1V6 auto trans. Now I bought the car knowing that it needed work. Now my question is. When the last owner bought it the tranny was completly shot. The guy got a s10 tranny that was untested for free. I have all drive gears but no reverse. Any Idea's. Or does it sound like I should just replace the whole trans.

I may do another 3.4 swap. But I need to find out what Pennsylvania's emission regulations are to see if I can just go V8. A friend of mine has a 68 Chevelle that has a 350 in it now with 270HP, and he is dropping a 500+ HP engine into it. He's got a tranny for me too.

yea sounds like youll have to change out the trans, but also i feel an over looked soulution is to have you current one rebuilt,, its somthi9ng to look into anyway,, i have rebuilt a few of these trans' step by step from this book i have and and it was not to hard as i thought it would be, my biggest problem was doing it on the ground, lol 0 that can be {back braking},,

Also could you tell me ( just out of couriosity) does you trans fluied smell burnt or look browish at all?,,, im not realy shur where in the clutch pack they would be slipping.....

I would consider rebuilding it but it would be cheaper to just get one out of a j/y. And I plan on going V8 this spring. I have a guy that I work with that has a 350 that he has in his 68 Chevelle with a saganaw (SP?) 4 speed manual trans. That he is replacing for a much more powerful engine.
