2.8 V6 - Upgrade?
Hey guys, i was thinking of keeping the 2.8 v6... since mine works great anyways. But, i was thinking of upgrading the cam and maybe pistons/rods for a little more power, and get a new set of gaskets. i think i have a head gasket leak... but i don't know. i'll check tomorrow.
what do you guys think? i'm building a v8 to toss into this car, but i want to toss the v6 into another car (roller) so if i need to while i'm restoring it, i can drive it. while it's out of the car... i was thinking of tossing it onto a stand and at least get it honed and cleaned and all of that good stuff... maybe tossing 300-600$ into while i'm at it. or, should i just sell the engine and trans and look for a used big v6 to toss into another roller?

I wouldnt worry about using the 2.8 as a temp engine cause it would cost as much to get all the stuff for a conversion as i would to just buy another running V8 from a JY. plus if you go back to a v8 you have to change it all back, not really worth it. Sell the V6 and use that money to buy an 8.
Oh and you do have a V8 trans for that v8 your replacing the V6 with right? if no then you will need a new trans.

well from what I see it's curently a 6 right?
if so work over the heads, change the cam, and up the ignition, open the exhaust and add a cold air.
just for terds and giggles....check out some of the parts on

I got a couple kits there for other motors and they are pretty good.

well, id agree w/ xplane if youve got another car to drive while youre swapping in the v8. but im kinda curious why youd take on two swaps (v6 to v8 and the v6 into something else) at the same time? if youre going to 8 cylinders, why not just buy a beater for the money youd spend building up the v6 and put the rest into the 8. if the 8s the way for you, get a beater or whatever and ditch the 6. if youre going to build the v6 and keep it, do a search on "mods" and youll find a novel full of stuff to do.
youll be surprised what a lil money and fabrication ability can do w/ these v6s though
