Cylinder head question

I started taking out the valves on my extra set of heads today. In the #4 cylinder(middle driver) exhaust port there is a hole going back to the intake. Just wondering what that hole is for.

old style vac EGR on s10's, and some of the other older cars that had this engine design.

Did any Camaros have this design? I thought I heard that they changed head designs, but I though it was the size of the ports.

no, it will be on both sides. Left and right heads are the same casting, in fact same maching too.

grimmics, the carb heads have 1.6 and 1.3 valves, where FI heads have 1.72 and 1.42 valves.

that port is used on TBI s10 setups, I know that for a FACT.

I bought these off of some guy on this site over a year ago. He said they came off a 3.1. So now I have some big paper weights .

Why did you buy them? You have a 3.1, they should be the same as what you have unless they were modified.

I bought them so I could have them P&P before I rip apart my engine, so I will have minimal down time. Plans changed and Im not going to use these anyways. So I was just going to clean them up in my spare time, and possibly sell them to someone who had plans like I had.

That hole is on every 60v6 with iron heads right? on the camaro V6 the intake gasket has a hole for it too, but the intake manifold itself only has a small indent that doesn't go anywhere. But like Dale said, it is only used for TBI setups. I think the carborated 60v6's have a tunnel that goes between both sides that heats the bottom of the manifold for faster warm up and to eliminate fuel puddling. Correct me if I'm wrong.

An no worries, I keep an extra set of heads in the garage, just in case.
