New to the site here just wanted to say hello
Couple things I've read on here I wanted to get feedback on.
1. The homemade ram air setup using the Iroc Grille. Is this as effective on the 60* as on the small blocks.
2. Is there any other "free" mods beyond regular car maintenance, the above and gutting the converter to free up additional power on 60* engines.
3. Almost forgot, I picked up a set of gauges w/ tach and actual hands etc. as mine was originally speedo and gas w/ lights. I guess it's a little late but should the new ones plug n play or will I have to change wiring and/or sending units?

Welcome...
First, for any help we will need to know what year car you have, and I assume since your talking about making the iroc grill mod, you have a camaro?
1. It really doesnt help alot unless your hitting massive speeds. Just modding the air box itself is about as good as your gonna get.
2. Depending on there your at, TB mod, kick timing up... thats about it thats less then 10 buxs. If your a maf car, replace the maf with a free-er flowing one thats not choking it down. But first make sure your engine is in top tune. Its pointless to mod a "defective" engine.
3. this is where we need car info

Sorry for loss of info, was assuming third gen site, v6 forum that it would be understood. Again my apologies, it's a 87 Sport Coupe Camaro (Check VB Garage) 2.8 multiport, auto. 132k I've owned for almost 4 years now. Well maintained but age gets to us all.
The honeycomb that is in the MAF sensor, can that be taken out or will it cause the cpu to have false readings?
What's a streetable timing on the 60*.
I always thought it was great that the air intake setup on these cars were factory cold air. By massive speeds do you mean 120mph or above? That's pegging these out. So would it be pointless beyond eye candy?

Axle/Gears: so tall theres no point
timing is 10*, advance it to 12* and see how the car runs. remember pinging = not a happy engine.

A thirdgen v6 can have 3 different engines (actually, 4 if you count the turbo 3.8). Then there are differences in the intakes between bird and camaro. This is why we needed car info.
Maf, there are some mafs that are shapped like )( that on the inside, and some like || that. You want this 2nd version. Not sure on removing screen as I dont have a maf version.
Massive speeds = 85+ yes. Nothing legal on the street.

I'll be adding the air ducts to the to do list.
My sensor is like the first one.
Is there any unwanted side effects from advancing the timing assuming the pinging sounds do not happen?
Didn't realize there was a difference between the intakes on the bird/camaro.
What are the differences? Will FWD heads work on these cars? If not, why?

Up to you on the ducts, Id rather have the air going to my radiator over the little advantages of the "ram air" effect. Have you modded the air box yet? If so, I would do that first and see what you think.
I forget which mafs are the chokes, n which ones are the wide open ones. Old member Doward was more into that info.. I think the true GM mafs were the open ones, where some of the aftermarket replacements where the chokes?????
Timing... Not that I know about. I belive you will run into ping before it would cause any other bad effects.
Intake... it went away from the true cold air style, to a round filter in the side of the car which.. lacks sucking.
FWD, not w/o redoing the pistons, intake, ecm, wiring. Lots of talk of this lately, search on it.

What about switching the gauges. I'm fitting in 86 Iroc gauges in place of my speedo and gas hand with lights ensemble. Would I have to replace the sending units on the block or the wiring going to the gauges, or both?
Havn't touched the airboxes yet. Wouldn't the radiator still catch air deflected from the black spoiler? Futhermore, probably expensive to come by, but the air duct to the intercooler on the Turbo TA that mounts under radiator support, could you not fab up braces to mount that in front of the support that way it would direct air under the car directly up in front of the radiator. It would probably work but if the benefits of the ram air are minimal (of course if they reduced mpg it would be worth it) it would kinda be counter productive in the wallet.
FWD's use coilpacks right, there is like a little recess on the ones I've seen assuming that would need to be milled out for the distributor?

I have no clue on the guages, not touched them. Might want to go over to the electronics section for that.
FWD 6/60's have the hole for the dizzy, its just pluged with a free spinning gear to keep the cam in place and run the oil pump.(same with the RWD 3.4)
