High Starting Idle
Re: High Starting Idle
The best way to determine if you have a vacuum leak (assuming all else is good) is if the engine "bogs" upon hard throttle, and/or the RPM's run too high at idle....[/quote]
This is my first post so I hope this works. And before I continue I want to say that you guys are awsome. Ok, that being said.
Based on what was said above.....this brings me to my problem with idling. When I start my car cold it starts, tries to run for a few seconds then dies. THen I re-start the car and it runs at high idle 1200-1400 RPM. THe computer seems to very the idle greatly while warming up. Sometimes up and down in idle speed by around 200 RPM. After warming up and idling for a while it gets down to the 700-900 RPM range. The major problem that I have now is that when I quickly hit the accelerator it hesitates or bogs down then catchs itself and accelerats the idle speed accordingly. I can actually watch the tach drop 100-200 RPM before the engine picks up idle speed when I stab the accelerator. If I gently press down on the accelerator it does fine. Also when I stabe the throttle within the first 30 seconds of warm up it seems to do fine. Just wondering what you thought. Also, when I try to get the idle down to around 500 RPM (where i was told it should be) via incorrectly adjusting the idle or by choking the intake at the MAF with my hand, it idles pretty rough. THe car sat for at least a 2 months as far as I know, I replaced spark plugs, wires, adjusted the timing correctly (at about 6degrees BTDC) checked fuel pressure, and TPS voltage, put fuel stable and injector cleanner in the tank, and cleaned the IAC as best I could with plenty of WD-40. Also I checked numerouse times for air leaks, and while do so again. Any suggestions on what I should do next? The idle adjustment skrew is all the way out, not touching the throttle plate linkage. My car is an 87 iroc 305TPI manual trans. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
