Is there a reason?
Pull the belt, unbolt the smog pump and EGR valve.
Make a cover for the intake manifold where the exhaust gas goes in.
Make a cover for the hole left in the exhaust manifold.
Measure for your new belt and install.

im not sure but if u dont install the idler pulley were the smog pump used to be i dont think the belt will have enough contact on the water pump.causing the water pump to slip.

though u could try it,if it dosent work without the idler pulley u can get one from the junkyard off any 2.8 powered firebird or camaro
----------
anyways why do u want to take the smog pump off? is it seized up, or do u just think the car will run better without it ???

without the smog pump the cat converter will not work as efficiantly raising the cars emmisions

I dont think you would have to do anything with your EGR when you take out your smog pump.

No you will have to change the routing, here's a pic...

You are correct, but if you are getting rid of the pump why would you want to keep the EGR?
