adjusted TV cable...Hell ensues

im currently in the process of performing the tomP tuneup(gracias btw) on my '91 bird, all is going well, until now of course. car was running great, especially after the new ignition stuff went in(rotor/cap,plugs,wires,ignition coil). most recently i just adjusted my TV cable according to both this site and my chilton manual. i took the car for a drive and noticed how much higher and harder the car would shift(that was fun for like 3 minutes), then i realized, hey, this probably isnt good for reliability of the tranny and im damn positive its not shifting how its supposed to shift. when i barely, and i mean just barely enough to start moving, depress the accelerator the engine will still shift at ~3-3.5k at a minimum! then when i let of a little, say to kick it down a gear at ~50mph, it just revvs down like im driving a manual, then back up into the same higher gear. it simply will not kick into gear like it used to, like something is "slipping." "wtf" i say to myself. my car shifted well before this adjustment, at least compared to this. "why did you F!%K with it then!" ...you may say. well, i didnt really know how it was supposed to shift in the first place, and the tuneup reference stated it was a good thing to do, so oh well. i need help on how to get this bird shifting how it used to, because my mileage is suffering and surely my tranny wont take this abuse much longer. thanks guys, pce out.
