a quick oil pump question

Ok guys heres a real quick question. Do you need to use any RTV sealer on the oil pan gasket? I'm getting some conflict from the book and the instructions from the gasket. The book says to use some, but the gasket says not to. I noticed that there were some traces of sealant at the front and back of the engine from the factory (timing cover and back area).

So basically, do you have to use sealant anywhere on the oil pan gasket? Thank you in advance!

BTW, the gasket I am using is from felpro.

The one piece molded rubber gasket does not need any thing. I used to put just a few spots of weather strip adhesive just to help hold it in place but not required.

I would put some around the spots where the arc meets the flat spot.

hmm, i was actually thinking of doing that. I don't see how it woudl really hurt the gasket anyway. Did you put it anywhere else or just in these little areas? I'm kinda wondering if there should be any at the bottom of the timing cover.

Re: a quick oil pump question

Just use it sparingly if you do, too much can push the gasket out of place.

Re: a quick oil pump question

also put a lil bit where the front cover meets the block so you dont get any leaks between that sealing area.
