3800 swap slowly coming together.

So, I cranked it today for the first time. I think it's got VATS issues. The BCM I got from the junkyard was supposed to be from the same car I go the dash/steering colum from, but it was pulled seperately and didn't actually say it was from the car. That BCM didn't allow the car to start at all. I had an extra BCM laying around from a 98 T/A that I plugged in and it fired up, but didn't stay running....which the video shows.

I'm thinking all I have to do is get the VIN from the car I got the dash and steering wheel from (I bought the front half of the car, so I have it sitting in the back yard) and go to the dealer and have them reprogram my BCM. Hopefully it's that simple.

Feels great to hear it running. Finally.

You usually need the BCM IN the car to have the dealer program it, since it also needs to be matched toe the PCM and programmed at the same time.

Try seraching this forum for "Try this Vats bypass" thread. It has information on building a circuit to bypass the need for the BCM. At the very least it should allow you to fire the car and at least drive it to get the BCM and PCM initiated.

Yea, I really want to keep the VATS functional. I didn't even think of disabling it to get it to the dealer/exhaust shop/etc though. Hopefully thats all the problem is. Awesome.

Hopefully they won't freak out and not do it b/c of the car not being factory.

I would fully expect them to freak out and or refuse to do this for you, most of them will probably think that it can't be done.

If I were in your shoes, I would disable or at least bypass the security and install something aftermarket, that will be eaiser to maintain, and harder for a possible theif to circumvent.
