Tightening the distributor down

My distributor keeps vibrating itself out of place... I adjusted it by turning it ever so slightly until I had it running absolutely perfect. 500-600 miles later, and it's terrible again. I assume there's supposed to be a bolt somewhere to tighten it down, but I can't see anything down there. Any help?

Re: Tightening the distributor down

There should be a 15mm (?) bolt almost underneath the black EGR tube that crosses behind the intake. This bolt tightens a plate that holds the base of the distributor down. Make sure its tight. You'll need to take the connectors out of the distributor ICM, and you'll need a 15mm socket, a swivel, and an 8" extension.

So it's straight down from the general area of that vacuum line that connects into the rear of the intake?

Re: Tightening the distributor down

yes.

Its under the passenger side of the dizzy, almost dead inbetween the two Ignition Control Module plugs. Be very careful not to destroy the IGM as you tighten this bolt!

a 15mm crowsfoot works nicely as well.
bolts on the passenger side of car ( almost directly under module/wire assembly )
