Re: MAP SENSOR WIRE?

Any 16 or 18 AWG mutistrand wire will be fine.

Re: MAP SENSOR WIRE?

Just make sure you solder and shrink wrap, not butt/crimp connect. Any computer sensor is really **** about voltage and a connection like a crimp is just asking for corrosion problems.

Re: MAP SENSOR WIRE?

well my grandpa kinda just wrapped the wires together and rapped them in electrical tape.

ACK, I hate it when I see that. I work on the electrical side of cars for a living, and see this FAR too often, and wonder if people forget that the car actually moves and will cause the wires to flex and fall apart, or the tempurature changes that occur in the automotive environment, all of this will cause an invisble insulator to build up between the wires, at this "connection", I don't recal the name of of thsi type of corrsion, but it happens, it forms when electrical energy is passed through wires that are touching, but not bonded, and will cause intermitent problems, such as no connection, when the wires are "connected".

Do it right.

10 million ghetto stereo installs can't be wrong... You'd be surprised if you knew how many cars were driving around with wire nuts on the wiring, or twisted/taped connections. There's no guarentee it'll cause problems.

That's what I was afraid of...

That's true, there are a lot of stereos installed improperly, but stereo systems and vehicle computer systems are VERY different. On a stereo system, a difference of .5v doesn't really make a difference in overall performance, but on a signal wire to the ECM 0.1V can be the difference between proper AIr/Fuel ratio and a motor that runs like crap with a check engine light on.

Wires that are just wrapped together have a lot of crevices for water to get into, that causes corrosion, especially under the hood, check out the negative battery terminal and you'll see what I mean. Plus the fact that after a while, the glue on the tape will come loose and might even cause a short to one of the other wires.

I too do this for a living and for the love of all things GM, please get those wires soldered correctly. There are a lot of cars out there with hack wiring that cause problems that could be very expensive to repair down the road.
