car wont start and making gulp gulp sound!!
ok i just bought an 87 camaro 2.8 with a blown head gasket. and i just finished chaging it, put it all back together and filled it all back up and it wont start. its got new every thing plugs, wires, cap rotot, distributor. i have a fuel pressure gauge on it and im getting about 35-40psi. it will crank and crank but notihng happens, then it begines to smoke real bad at the throttle body adn smells like somthing is burning. then once the key gets turned back it will make a popping noice for a couple seconds. oh and when its cranking over i can hear a sound like gulp, gulp gulp, but i dont know what that could be, is it the oil pan, its got fresh oil in it. thnaks for the help.

Try twisting the dizzy in one direction or the other. It sounds as though your timing is WAAY off. You may even have to march the plug wires around on the cap until you find the right position.
Also, another possibility is that you overtightened the rocker arm nuts, and a few valves are hanging open full time. Before you do anything, do a compression test on all six cylinders. I don't remember what the 2.8's cylinder PSI is supposed to be as it is going on three years since I had my 2.8, but you should probably be shooting for around 140-150, IIRC. If anyone knows for sure, feel free to correct me. Anything lower, and either your rocker nuts are too tight or too loose. Proper assembly (clean the pushrods first or you're never going to get it right) is to remove all play in the valvetrain and tighten the nut an extra quarter turn.

Well my problem was that I didn't know there was 3 marks on the balancer, and I timed to the wrong mark. My car did EXACTLY what you described, so definitally check the timing.
