Revving by motor on startup

On start up my motor has revved by itself a few times. It will rev to 3-4K then back down to 1K and do it a couple more times and stop doing it. Is this the IAC opening and closing on its own, or I have been told that it could be the crank sensor (where is that located)? Any info will help thanks.

well...seeing as that you don't actually have a crank sensor, I don't think it's that. You most likely problem is the IAC. It gets clogged with crap and the motor itself gets gummed up. You can try taking it apart, but I just replace them, it's like $30. Just a personal opinion to replace it rather than bandaid it. You'll never get all the crap out of it.

The IAC is pretty new and all of the airways in the TB have been cleaned out and I checked all of it this past weekend. It does this once in a blue moon and hasn't done it in a while.

Seems like you have some issue going on. You have had these kind of problems at idle for a while now? Are you getting any codes this time?

Re: Revving by motor on startup

My idle is a little better but not much after everything that I have changed. IAC, TPS, MAF, EGR, plugs, wires, O2 snesor, and various vaccum tubes. I only get the occassional EGR code. The SES only comes on for a few seconds every once in a while. My idle now is ~1100-~1200. At ~1200 RPM the whol car vibrates and won't go much lower than that without being irratic and dying. I won't mess with it much more because I plan on rebuilding another motor with some goodies and stick it in there.
