Speedometer doesn't work
Speedometer doesn't work
I have a 1992 Camaro RS, 3.1, Auto. I replaced the gauge cluster because it was cracked and the speedometer and tach didn't work. The speedometer still doesn't work. I then replaced the speed sensor thinking that could be it, because it was kind of dirty. Still doesn't work. Is this a common problem? I'm just not sure where to go next.

Re: Speedometer doesn't work
mine has been pretty intermittent lately. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When I've had the laptop hooked up to it, it shows speed still so I'm guessing that my problem in the wiring between the computer and the guage or the guage (speedometer) itself. I'm not real sure where to look on it either, though.

Re: Speedometer doesn't work
Please forgive me since I do not know all the names of the parts.
In my 89 RS I had the same problem. So what I did was replaced the Speedo Cable. That didn't work.
When I sent my tranny in for a rebuild I had asked the guy to fix that. He did. Where the Speedo Cable connects to on the transmission the gear or something else for that connection in the tranny was messed up so he replaced that and the speedo worked.
Like I said sorry for not knowing the part names. Hopefully someone else will read my post and know the names.

I know what you're talking about. 91s and newer didn't use the speedo cable, they're electronic. I know that end is working fine on mine since the computer is still getting the speed reading.
