Cooling Fan Help

Ok my fan doesnt turn on at all. Ive changed the cooling sensor in the intake manifold and still nothing. Should i change the switch? Also ive heard there is a way to run power straight to the fan to check the motor. How do you do this? Thanks.

Re: Cooling Fan Help

find the hot (power) wire to the fan. and run a wire to it from a 12 volt source. ie, scratch off some of the insulation on the + fan wire. and run a wire from that to the positive on the battery, if it kicks. shes good.

Re: Cooling Fan Help

ok i found the hot wire i didnt need a dvo after all ( DUH ). OK the fan turns on now with the wire running from the battery. It sounds like its hitting the shroud but not sure. So since it works with the battery but wont turn on , that means the switch is bad right? Where is the switch located?

Re: Cooling Fan Help

The fan switch is a relay. Under hood, drivers side, on firewall close to hood hinge. There are 3 relays. The inner most relay is the fuel pump relay, the next one out (center one) is the fan relay (check this relay), the outermost one is the A/C compressor relay.

To turn on the fan via the relay, terminal F needs to be grounded. The wire on this terminal is a dark green with white stripe.

If you remove the relay, jumpering terminal E to A (use a heavy piece of wire) will turn on the fan. If not there is a fusable link that should be checked. The wiring diagram shows it going to the battery. Maybe from the starter plus.

RBob.

Re: Cooling Fan Help

the way i got mine set, once my car hits about 170* my fans never shut off, and run constantly, this is due to my chip, plus with my 180t stat, the car RARELY goes over 185ish.

You should consider a 160 thermostat. Fan's shouldn't really come on before the thermostat opens up.....
