3.4 is in, but it won't run!

Ok guys, I got the 3.4 into the bird and hooked most things up. There are a couple of things to hook up, but it should run without them. Anyway, yes I do have the 3.4 injectors (brand new) in there. Still got some issues with the cooling hoses routing for the heater core (thanks for the responses in that thread!)but it should run regarldess right? I just want to see it run for now.

When I try to start it, it just cranks most of the time. Sometimes it'll catch, and really struggle to run, but usually just dies. If I press the throttle, nothing actualyl happens, it just continues to struggle, no reving or anything, like you're running out of gas.

I moved the distributor around and one time it caught and ran somewhat, but then eventually died, I played with the distributor again, but it eventually died. When it does catch it runs somewhat rough, a little backfiring I believe.

I'm thinking that maybe I installed the distributor in a tooth off or something? Would that cause these problems? I heard these cars are pretty particualr about the timing and what not. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Yea your timing is way off. I had the same issue when I first put mines in and istead of having it set on 1 it was on six. What I then did was rotate my plug wires around to verify my problem at that was it. Now I could have left it at that b/c it was running fine but I set it the way it should be. Advance your wires 1 and see what happens.

thanks for the reply! I'm really hoping its just a timing issue, I wont have to work on it any time soon but im definetley going to keep your advice about the wires in mind. I think I might have my friend deal with the timing part, I was never good at it especially when stabbing a dizzy back in lol But does anyone else have any thoughts just in case?

check your compression on the cyls before you fire it up an make sure you have even compression and no valves are stuck open.

If its backfiring, your timing is off, and/or you got valves stuck open.

If it has been sitting for awhile i'd change that fuel i had the same problem until i siphined out all the gas and added hi octane. Actually before doing that check ur fuel pressure.

Don't keep cranking it like that tho u might flood out a cylinder and hydrolock one and maybe crack a head or the block.

Also those things that are unplugged ur probably better off plugging them in u never know if it complete's a circuit somewhere.

Also if ur cat's off u might wanna put that back in or a straight pipe u might not be getting enough backpressure.

Good luck

U might also have a clogged feul filter

Re: 3.4 is in, but it won't run!

thanks for all the replys guys! I couldn't respond for a while because TGO was apparently down for maintenence. Anyway, I rotated the wires clockwise one...no go it ran worse if at all. ROtated them back, then rotated them one counterclockwise...ran GREAT!

Thanks for all the help guys! I still need to play with the timing (moved the dizzy so now the timing is off again lol) and I think I have an oil leak from the dizzy (I hope) since its not tightened down yet.
