Porting the UIM
I remember a thread from a while ago that I can't find in the search. Someone was talking about porting the UIM where it bends and connects to the MIM, all the porting would do if I recall is let the UIM flow better by lessening the angle of the bend internally and maybe be worth a small gain? Does anyone know anything about doing this as I might try it for the hell of it.
Re: Porting the UIM
yeah its hard. and requires lots of patientce. when i did mine i just cleaned all of the barbon out and got it to bare metal with a flexable heavy duty wire brush. then when your done porting i used a couple diffrent steel wire brushes on my dremal to get it smooth. overall came out pretty nice. but as for a performance gain i coulndt tell you but im sure it didnt hurt nothing.

I may not even do it if it's not worth the few hours of work it would probably take.
Re: Porting the UIM
i did it to all of mine and it took a good weekend, but i worked on and off. but its def worth it to clean them out and get all the old crap out of them at least. but porting them isnt really worth it i dont think.

Re: Porting the UIM
i did that post a lil while back. i ported the upper and lower plemums. first i gasket matched them and then opend them up a bit more for more air flow. i have flow bench numbers. IMO it was worth it for being basically free. and i did a decent job on it, but didnt spend too much time doing it. look through this and see what the flow numbers are. its worth it.... although, you need to try not to take out too much out of one more than another

Thanks, I remember the thread but could never find it. So how did it all end up. Any noticeable difference?

Re: Porting the UIM
it wasnt too bad of a difference. nothing to stand up and rejoice over, but you can notice it in the upper RPMs. it doesnt feel quite as choked off. theres a place by where i live that does extrude honing, i think i may look into that this winter, that way i get it all opened up even more.

Re: Porting the UIM
So what you basically did was gasket match the UIM and MIM correct. That's what it sounded like from the other thread.

Re: Porting the UIM
i opened it up a bit farther than that, i took a bit of gasket off on the thickest side of it. but that was basically it. if i had more time, i would have done more, like extrude hone.
