2.8 to 3.1 bottom end

I've got a 1991 RS with a good 3.1 motor. Unfortunately the body got smashed by a huge willow branch so the car's shot. I am wondering if i can use just the block, or block and heads from the 3.1, to replace the 2.8 in my 1985 s10 blazer 4X4. Will the engine mounts, tranny bolts, and intake/exhaust manifolds match up? Also will I have any problem since i will be running a stock 1985 carb on top of the 1991 injected 3.1 block? Thanks,
-k

Welcome to thirdgen.org.

This is backwards from what is allowed by Board rules (if you were asking about the S10 engine going into a 3rd gen, that would be different), but I'll move this from Engine Swap to the V6 forum since the answer would apply for using an S10 engine in a 3rd gen.

Re: 2.8 to 3.1 bottom end

Everything will match except that there is no mechanical fuel pump for the 3.1. You need to go to the auto parts store and buy the universal carburetor electrical fuel pump that puts out about 7 psi.

Other than that, you should be okay!

Sweet thanks. Thats one thing i didnt think about but makes good sense. Would it make more sense to run the 3.1 heads or the 2.8 heads (with the 2.8 manifold and carb)?

Use the 3.1 heads. Later heads have bigger valves.
