I've had my 3.1 bird for about a month now...and I just picked up a 92 3.1 cutlass...and I was wondering...

do all 3.1's kind of have a whinning sound on acceleration?

Both of my cars run absolutely perfect and I am really impressed by this little 3.1, just wondering why they sound like they have a supercharger on them haha

 

that has do do with a couple of things. mostly because its a v6 and doesnt have a deep rumble like a v8. also it has to do with your exhuast, when mine was stock it had a whinny noise on acceleration also., but with headers and a dynomax bullet it sounded like a prostock car.

 

Mine has a bit of a whine to it too. I think that it is also from some of the accessories spinning up too.

 

My 90 with a 3.1 lost the whine after I installed a flowmaster cat-back from an 86 T/A.

 

maybe going from olds v8 open manifolds to stock exhaust (i never have stock exh. on my cars lol)...

but I kind of like the whine...

 

yea i have that whine too...especially when i shift from 1st to 2nd. then 2nd to 3rd. dont here it much after that...
