92 V6 5 speed tranny mount. Why so expensive? $200

None of the stores(advance, napa, oreillys) sell a tranny mount for a 92 firebird v6 5 speed. The gm dealer does but they want over $200 for one. The automatic mount only costs $6. Anyone know where i can get a cheaper mount?

if you want the stock hydraulic mount that originally came on it, you're gonna have to spend the cash. It's a dealer only part that has been discontinued for production and that's the reason it's so expensive. The aftermarket has not made a mount that replaces it exactly yet. There are a couple of options for making an automatic one fit, do a search, there was a post almost exacly like this about 1 week ago.

I ended up putting in a used V8 transmission crossmember brace and a V8 tranny mount. Made a world of difference. The car has always been (for the 5 years I've had it) a little jerky when shifting gears and its not anymore. Plus, it cost me altogether around $32.

There are several difference mounts (as I came to find out). Check the following link for info, should you be interested.

i had to do this same thing because of the same problem last year.

the mount was too expensive, and i ripped through 2 used ones that i found online

so i finally switched to the v8 style with the secondary crossmember, ordered some poly biscuits and a poly mount from jegs

i thought the poly mount would transfer more vibration into the car, but the floating crossmember mounted on secondary biscuits offsets that dramatically

now the car is smoother AND the trans is mounted alot stiffer. now i get almost no shifter bounce through gears like i did before

Should anyone be interested in the OE secondary cross member rubber insolators. I have a new set, brand new in the package. Cost + shipping.

I'm just using a single piece for the tranny crossmember and a $6 rubber motor mount.

Hopefully no one will ever try to replace that big crazy mount again!

There are too many cars in the wrecking yard not to switch the crossmember out and just use a nice V8 mount.
